Using the Educator Checklist for UDL Guidelines, I evaluated a Goal-directed Instructional Design Plan for a lesson which I had submitted to Merlot. It was informative to go through the checklist and reflect on whether my lesson incorporated the three principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and to what extent. The three principles of UDL are: Provide Multiple Means of Representation; Provide Multiple Means of Action and Expression; Provide Multiple Means of Engagement. I found this exercise useful and it reminded me that if I apply UDL principles while developing a lesson, I will be able to meet the needs of more learners from the start. I will not have to go back and revise or "retro-fit" lessons. The below link provides the checklist, as well as my notes. Enjoy!
